DUBAI // Three men who used a rock to break a pharmacy’s window and stole Dh11,000 worth of controlled drugs were jailed on Thursday for armed robbery.
Emiratis A A, 27, O A, 22, and S S, a 19-year-old Comoros Islands passport holder, were convicted of armed robbery, a charge which they denied at Dubai Criminal Court on October 5.
They were also convicted of stealing Dh3,150 from the pharmacy’s cash register.
A A and O A were each jailed for a year, while S S was jailed for six months.
He will be deported after serving his sentence.
The three men were arrested on August 3, the day of the incident, after a police report was made.
“They confessed in front of me that they used the rock to break the glass window of the pharmacy and then stole the drugs as well as cash,” according to N M, a 39-year-old policeman.
Indian P F, 49, told prosecutors that a pharmacy worker told him about the theft.
Police checked the security camera recordings and saw two people throwing a rock at the window, then pushing against it with their shoulders three times until it broke.
The security footage showed the men entering the store and leaving with a large quantity of controlled medication.
