Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has dismissed reports linking the club with a move for Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez as another “rumour”.
Premier League club Tottenham are expected to enter the market for a forward, with Emmanuel Adebayor set for a loan move to Aston Villa and Roberto Soldado, linked with a return to Spain with Villarreal, not a player who has impressed Pochettino.
It leaves Harry Kane as the only recognised senior striker heading into the new season, and Hernandez has been suggested as a possible option to bolster the Spurs attack.
However, Pochettino denied reports that the Mexico international is a target for Tottenham.
“About Javier Hernandez, those are rumours and nothing more,” Pochettino said after Tottenham’s 2-1 loss to the MLS All-Stars. “There is nothing concrete. He is a Manchester United player and logically a lot of names are getting suggested for Tottenham and Javier is just one more.”
Hernandez spent last season on-loan at Real Madrid but found his chances limited. United manager Louis van Gaal last year suggested the striker’s time at Old Trafford was over, but a lack of options up-front, following the release of Radamel Falcao and sale of Robin van Persie, could lead to more opportunities for the 27-year-old Hernandez.
